Margo Meets the Media

Making Strides for Breast Cancer 2009

Volunteers in New Hampshire lead the nation in per capita fundraising with eight Making Strides for Breast Cancer events throughout the state in Concord, Dover, Exeter, Laconia, Manchester, Nashua, North Conway and Peterborough. I joined hundreds of passionate walkers, survivors and volunteers in Dover on Sunday morning to raise awareness and dollars to fight breast cancer. It was an inspiring, humbling day of service.




After the walk, I traveled to Gillette Stadium to support the Miss NH Scholarship Fund and the NFL's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The NFL, its clubs and players are supporting the fight against breast cancer with a campaign called, "A Crucial Catch." In partnership with the American Cancer Society, the focus is on the importance of annual screenings, especially for women who are over the age of 40. Throughout October, NFL games will feature players, coaches and referees wearing pink game apparel to raise awareness for the campaign, as well as on-field pink ribbon stencils and special K-balls and pink coins. All apparel worn at games by players and coaches and special K-balls and pink coins will auctioned off at NFL Auction (www.NFLAuction.NFL.com), with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society and team charities.

Macy's Shop for a Cause 2009





Strafford County Supermodels Autumn, Erika, Kat, Lissa, Margo, Melanie and Tiffany rocked the runway for the Fourth Annual “Shop For a Cause” charity shopping event, which has raised nearly $28 million for charities across the country since 2006. The 2009 National Charities were: Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Go Red for Women and Make-A-Wish. Thank you to everyone at the Newington Mall Macy's for a fabulous day! A very busy month!

What an exciting month. I had SO much fun at the Macy's Fashion Show! I absolutely loved modeling and I ended up buying the dress and the coat the stylists selected for me. Since being crowned on 9/18 I have been very busy:

Macy's Shop for a Cause on Saturday!

World Habitat Day 2009 - Building Houses, Building Hope

On Oct. 4, I was honored to celebrate World Habitat Day in Farmington with a Groundbreaking Ceremony for Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity. This beautiful new home will be a duplex for two families. Thank you to Liz, Joan, Bob, Meg, Cheryl and everyone in Farmington for an incredible introduction to Habitat for Humanity.

Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity is a Christian ministry that builds quality, affordable homes in partnership with deserving families in the greater Portsmouth, Newington, Newcastle and Strafford County region of New Hampshire. Since its founding in 1990, the organization has built or rehabilitated 15 homes in Dover, Gonic, Northwood, Rochester, Somersworth and Farmington. I was honored to have the opportunity to meet Niki Alpers at the Susan G. Komen Offices in Boston. She is a passionate advocate for Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, working together to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.
