Making Strides for Breast Cancer 2009

"Never underestimate the power of passion." Eve Sawyer

Volunteers in New Hampshire lead the nation in per capita fundraising with eight Making Strides for Breast Cancer events throughout the state in Concord, Dover, Exeter, Laconia, Manchester, Nashua, North Conway and Peterborough. I joined hundreds of passionate walkers, survivors and volunteers in Dover on Sunday morning to raise awareness and dollars to fight breast cancer. It was an inspiring, humbling day of service.

After the walk, I traveled to Gillette Stadium to support the Miss NH Scholarship Fund and the NFL's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The NFL, its clubs and players are supporting the fight against breast cancer with a campaign called, "A Crucial Catch." In partnership with the American Cancer Society, the focus is on the importance of annual screenings, especially for women who are over the age of 40. Throughout October, NFL games will feature players, coaches and referees wearing pink game apparel to raise awareness for the campaign, as well as on-field pink ribbon stencils and special K-balls and pink coins. All apparel worn at games by players and coaches and special K-balls and pink coins will auctioned off at NFL Auction (www.NFLAuction.NFL.com), with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society and team charities.
